TruGreen announces pilot program to test microGreen Oil Filter

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

One of the nation’s largest commercial fleet operations
aims to reduce oil use by 70 percent

Memphis, Tenn. – October 28, 2009 – TruGreen, the nation’s leading provider of lawn care services, today announced that it has been using a microGreen™ Extended Performance Oil Filter on vehicles in Florida.  The company is in the beginning stages of a pilot program that is expected to continue to through March 2010 and is seeing promising preliminary results.  The project is expected to reduce maintenance costs while reducing the company’s impact on the environment.

As part of the pilot, TruGreen is participating in a microGreen Fleet Adoption Program sponsored by SOMS Technologies LLC’s, a provider of engine oil filtration products.  SOMS’s program allows eligible fleets to use the microGreen filter across their vehicles and receive free oil analysis to monitor the performance of the filter. The microGreen oil filter utilizes an advanced, patented technology that enables vehicles to operate up to 30,000 miles without an oil change. The microGreen oil filter has two filters in one standard spin-on canister, which ensures that the oil stays cleaner, far longer. The microGreen technology saves fleets 65% on their maintenance costs while reducing the use of oil by 70% and oil filters by 50%. This saves money while significantly decreasing the potential for improper disposal of these hazardous wastes and helps protect the environment.

“Testing and implementing technologies that can help us reduce our impact on the environment is very important to us. If those technologies also provide an economic benefit to our company, everyone wins,” said Michael St. Clair, vice president of fleet operations for ServiceMaster.

With over 15,000 vehicles, ServiceMaster, TruGreen’s parent company, operates the tenth largest commercial fleet in the U.S. ServiceMaster currently serves residential and commercial customers through a network of more than 5,500 company-owned locations and franchised licenses. The company’s brands include TruGreen, TruGreen LandCare, Terminix, American Home Shield, ServiceMaster Clean, Merry Maids, Furniture Medic, and AmeriSpec. The core services of the company include lawn care and landscape maintenance, termite and pest control, home warranties, cleaning and disaster restoration, house cleaning, furniture repair and home inspection.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to work with ServiceMaster to help them achieve their maintenance costs and environmental objectives,” said Steven Kirchner, COO of SOMS Technologies. “Our Fleet Adoption Program allows fleets to experience the benefits of the microGreen filter and ensure the performance of the filter with independent oil analysis. We are excited to provide an innovative solution which offers tremendous cost savings, while making a significantly positive impact on our environment.”

“The SOMS pilot program is part of our commitment to developing responsible lawn care practices,” said Steve Donly, president of TruGreen.  “The significant reduction in oil use is just one example of our passionate pursuit of sustainable business practices.”

Other TruGreen initiatives that are helping the company to reach its environmental sustainability goals include the development of lighter-weight, more fuel-efficient route trucks that use electric-powered pumping systems to allow technicians to turn off trucks at each lawn. The company estimates at least one fuel fill-up per week can be eliminated by turning off the truck at every lawn visit. TruGreen trucks also have engine idle limiters to further reduce truck idling.

Automotive Fleet: Fleets Cut Maintenance Costs Utilizing microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

VALHALLA, NY - Since launching its “Fleet Adoption Program” in April, SOMS Technologies, LLC, developer and manufacturer of the microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter, has announced that over 100 fleets have joined the program. The innovative program allows fleet managers to assess the microGreen Oil Filter and validate the cost savings and environmental benefits. As part of the program, SOMS offers a complimentary oil analysis to eligible companies that is conducted through an independent laboratory to monitor the performance of the filter and the quality of the oil.

“We have found that our ‘Fleet Adoption Program’ supports the goals of fleet managers who want to reduce oil maintenance costs and improve environmental efficiency,” said Steve Kirchner, COO, SOMS Technologies. “Once they’ve had the opportunity to test our product and objectively quantify the savings and environmental benefits, a majority of the fleets have become quick adopters of our product.”

The microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter is a spin-on filter that fits most light vehicles, as well as fleet classes 1-6. It has been proven through extensive laboratory and on-road testing to reduce oil maintenance costs by 65 percent, decrease the use of motor oil by 70 percent, and reduce the number of filter changes by 50 percent.

Designed as two-filters-in-one, the microGreen filter looks and operates like a traditional spin-on oil filter; however, its unique internal components include a patented microfilter that captures particles down to 2 microns in size. Traditional oil filters using paper filtration typically filter down to 25 - 40 microns. The double filtration of the microGreen filter keeps the oil cleaner and maintains the additive package, allowing vehicles to extend the use of motor oil up to 30,000 miles.

Steve Kirchner, COO, SOMS Technologies Part of “Innovative Solutions on How to Save Money and Green Your Fleet” Presentation At Green Fleet Conference 2009

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

(Valhalla, New York) – Steve Kirchner, chief operating officer (COO) of SOMS Technologies LLC, manufacturer of the microGreen™ Extended Performance Oil Filter, is one of the speakers who will present “Innovative Solutions on How to Save Money and Green Your Fleet” at the Green Fleet Conference 2009. The annual conference provides commercial fleet professionals with practical and affordable ways to “green” their fleet. This year’s event will be held October 19-20 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.  Kirchner’s presentation is part of an hour long session that will begin at 2:05 pm on Tuesday, October 20.

Kirchner is an expert in motor oil and oil filter preventative maintenance through his work with SOMS and as a former senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Valvoline Oil Company. The new microGreen motor oil filter is uniquely qualified to protect the environment and reduce the financial costs associated with periodic preventative motor oil and filter maintenance in fleet classes 1-6.

“Fleet managers are looking for ways to ‘Green’ their fleet by reducing their environmental impact,” said Kirchner. “My presentation will demonstrate how our patented microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter can help reduce their environmental impact and lower operating costs at the same time. I will review data from our extensive laboratory and on road customer testing, how fleets can reduce oil maintenance costs by 65 percent, decrease motor oil use by 70 percent and reduce the number of filter changes by 50 percent.  Although the microGreen filter has been commercially available for less than one year, we are extremely pleased that many of the top 20 commercial fleets in the U.S. as well as numerous local, city and regional fleets are using this new technology. They are extremely pleased with the performance of the filter and its ability to help their environmental and costs saving objectives.”
